LINKAGES / ENLACES

Grounded Research

The Linkages Project collaborates with key local partners to coproduce knowledge about sociobiodiversity value-chains in the Brazilian Amazon. Together, we have developed six case-studies, co-creating research questions, design and methodology and implementation approach. Through these initiatives, we analyze the diversity and plurality of production arrangements of the sociobioeconomy led by local communities on the ground. These initiatives are key Amazonian examples of:

  • Artisanal fisheries and lake management
  • Food production through agroforestry systems
  • Production and commercialization services

Focal Areas

The leading researchers in the Linkages Project have a longstanding trajectory of collaboration with local actors, particularly in the state Pará. This is a key area in the Brazilian Amazon for it is the second-largest state and the one with the highest historical deforestation in the region. The six local initiatives analyzed in the project are, therefore, located in Pará, in the municipalities of Santerém, Medicilândia, Abaetetuba and Tomé-Açu.
