Local knowledge for a grounded (bio)economy in the Amazon
The LINKAGES Project adopts a critical perspective on the bioeconomy in the Amazon based on socio-biodiversity value chains. Based on local knowledge and produced in the region’s forests, agroforests and floodplain lakes, these chains support local economies and promote regional transformations towards a sustainable and inclusive bioeconomy in the Amazon. In this context, we seek to understand the organization and functioning ofthese chains as well as their economic andsocio-environmental impacts at different levels, from local perspectives. Hence, we are a transdisciplinary research consortium that adopts a co-production methodology, in which researchers, civil society and local communities come together to think about what sustainable and inclusive development is in the Amazon. Built on a long-term commitment to the region, our project seeks to contribute to solutions that benefit the forest and the people who live in it.
